PURPOSE: A communication device and method for a distribution automation system are provided to efficiently perform communications between complex communication devices by applying hypercube expansion tree protocol. CONSTITUTION: A monitor unit(110) generates monitoring information by monitoring facility information of a distribution facility in real time. A control unit(120) controls a communication unit(130) in order to transmit the monitoring information to a central control equipment in a distribution automation system. The communication unit generates path table information by periodically exchanging a BPDU(Bridge Protocol Data Unit) with a destination communication device in the distribution automation system. A storage unit(140) stores a program corresponding to the monitoring information, the path table information, and a communication method. A power supply unit(150) supplies power for running the communication device.
