PURPOSE: A cable online partial discharge diagnostic system and a method thereof make an optimized system for monitoring a power cable at normal times. CONSTITUTION: A cable online partial discharge diagnostic system includes a signal acquisition unit (100), a signal preprocessing unit (200), and a grid generation module (300). The signal acquisition unit detects a partial discharge signal using a high frequency sensor installed at a cable, amplifies the partial discharge signal according to detected partial discharge, and converts the partial discharge signal into a pulse signal with certain bits of precision. The signal preprocessing unit accumulates the partial discharge pulse signal inputted from the signal acquisition unit by synchronizing the partial discharge pulse signal with a power phase. The grid generation module generates multiple unit regions in a grid shape in phase axis and discharge axis directions for a region in which the partial discharge pulse signal appears during one period according to phases for the accumulated partial discharge pulse signals.
