FIELD: physics.SUBSTANCE: method of updating at least one competition time during a sporting contest in at least one receiving device (5, 15) based on data signals (ST) transmitted by a transmitting device (2). The transmitting device (2) can be located at the site of the sporting contest, and the receiving device (15) can be located relatively far away from the site of the sporting contest. According to the present method, data signals (ST) are first transmitted by the transmitting device during the sporting contest. Said data signals include data on the start time of at least one of the competitors, on one or more intermediate times and finish time. The receiving device (15) consecutively receives data signals (ST). That way, the receiving device (15) enables to update competition time during a sporting contest after a given delay time Δt in the receiving device (5, 15) and in accordance with the indication of the start time in the received data signals (ST).
