FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to molecular biology and can be used in medicine, virology and environmental protection. The biological microchip has several waterproof cells bounded by electrodes. Each of the cells of the microchip is filled with a mixture of a suspension of erythrocytes which are sensitive to the viral agent. In certain cells, a virus is added to the erythrocytes. Also, normal and positive serum is used in the microchip for virus detection. The system for identifying viruses has said biological microchip, a video camera, a computer and an alternating voltage source. The method of identifying viruses involves formation of a non-uniform alternating electric field between electrodes at frequencies of negative and positive dielectrophoresis and comparing the reaction of erythrocytes in cells of the microchip.;EFFECT: use of the invention enables rapid identification of the type of virus present in liquid biological material.;4 cl, 7 dwg, 2 tbl, 1 ex
