FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: what is presented is a method for differentiation of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and non-pathological states in a sample, including the measurement of the concentration of the peptide of a C1 protein 2 chain of the cartilage intermediate layer (CILP-2). The high level of the C1 protein 2 chain CILP-2 compared with rheumatoid arthritis and the normal state indicates that the patient has osteoarthritis. What is also presented is a peptide for differentiation of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and non-pathological states, comprising SEQ ID NO:1.
