The variable passenger car (10) has an electrically operated front end (11) and a rear end (12) that is rigidly coupled to a rear side by coupling elements. The front and rear ends form a vehicle unit (20) with three axles (21). A drive unit (15) of the rear end has an internal combustion engine, a tank, a gear box and controlling- and connecting elements (16). The drivable axles (22) of the rear end are driven by the internal combustion engine through the gear box.
