A process for the purification of contaminated waste water with organic substances by means of a catalytic wet oxidation with hydrogen peroxide, wherein the waste water to be purified in the closed cycle via a reactor (r01a, r02a, r03a) and a subsequent catalysis reactor (r01b, r02b, r03b) with a fixed bed catalyst, which form a unit, is pumped and as a fixed bed catalyst a catalyst selected from the group of the metals of the vii and viii of the periodic table or of the noble metals, is used, and within the circuit, in front of the catalysis reactor (r01b, r02b, r03b), hydrogen peroxide is added, wherein the treatment of waste water at a temperature of 60°C. to 210°C, a pressure of up to 30 bar and a residence time of from 20 to 300 minutes, in a plurality of, up to five, series-connected units is carried out.
