The device has a probe needle (1) or a stylus provided with probe bodies (7, 9, 11, 13) and a touching unit i.e. touching ball, where the touching unit is held in a cage-shaped receiving device at the probe needle. The touching unit is fixed on the receiving device by spring force and/or clamping action and formed in spherical or semi-spherical shape. The touching unit is separated from the receiving device, where the receiving device includes two retaining plates or retaining surfaces that are arranged parallel to each other. The probe body is made of steel i.e. non-magnetic stainless steel, or carbon fiber or ceramic or hard metal i.e. hardened gauge steel. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a sensing device.
