The axle (1) has two trailing arms (4) connected with each other by a crossbeam (3). Each trailing arm is formed of an inner casing (5) and an outer casing (6). The inner casing comprises a mounting opening (19) through which an end (20) of the crossbeam is guided and connected with the inner casing. The end of the crossbeam is in contact with the outer casing. The inner casing and the outer casing are connected with each other in a vertical longitudinal plane of the trailing arm. The outer casing overlaps the inner casing at a top surface (17) of the trailing arm.
