The method involves performing broadband detection of electromagnetic emissions and displaying detected signal power based on frequency and time in two-dimensional spectrogram. The appropriate search masks are selected and search forms are moved on spectrogram. The patterns in spectrogram are recognized. The group of classified pattern with encountered patterns related to time frequency activity is combined to preliminary signal mapping. The two-dimensional allocation pattern is examined to find for possible indicator wrong assignment and to output electromagnetic emission classification. An independent claim is included for apparatus for automatically detecting and classifying of high frequency signals in air.
