The method involves providing operable services to several subscriber terminals over a wide area network by a network termination apparatus. A terminal identifier is assigned to each subscriber terminal as unique identifier and is stored in a fixed location on a stationary element. The terminal identifier not necessarily read by a fixed network communication unit is used in course for registration of operable service to the subscriber terminal and transferred to a tethering device over the wide area network for identification of a node connection. An independent claim is included for arrangement for automated identification of subscriber terminals.
