It is a method for determining the time opening behavior and / or of the time closing behavior of a fuel injector equipped with a bobbin drive described. The method has, on (a) act on the coil drive with a boost voltage in a boost portion for moving a magnet armature coil drive of a closed position into an open position, (b) are admitted to coil drive with a holding voltage in a holding phase, for holding the magnet armature in the open position, wherein the holding voltage in the form of a plurality of the holding pulses is applied, so that a predetermined holding current with a lower and an upper retention level is established, (c) detecting the time interval (δt) between the first retaining pulse (h1) of the and the second retaining pulse (h2), and (d) determining the time opening behavior and / or of the time closing behavior of the fuel injector as a function of the detected temporal distance between the first retaining pulse (h1) and the second retaining pulse (h2). Furthermore, a corresponding device and a computer program for determining the time behaviour of such a fuel injector described. In addition, a driving method for a fuel injector with a bobbin drive is described, which on the said method for determining the behaviour of the fuel injector is based.
