The sensor unit (5) has a temperature sensor (7) electrically connected to a coil (8a) such that the coil is excited by electrical signals from the temperature sensor, where the temperature sensor is an active sensor or a passive sensor. The coil surrounds a section of an open core (9a) having a base (10) with two legs (11) at right angle to the base, where free ends (12a) of the open core are connected to a wall (2) of a household appliance (1) i.e. cooking pot. An independent claim is also included for a data transmission unit for a household appliance.
