The sensor device (110) has a sensor element (114) with an electromechanical measuring cell (128) and a heating element (132), where a common supply line (134) is provided for electrical contacting of the electromechanical measuring cell and the heating element. The sensor device has a diode circuit (118) connected with the common supply line. The diode circuit is configured such that the measuring cell and the heating element are impinged with a voltage or a current with opposite polarities at the common supply line. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) an exhaust gas system with an exhaust gas line; and (2) a method for detecting a characteristic of a gas in a measuring gas space.
