The device has a supporting element (1) including a set of segments (1.1) connected with each other by a spring element. A tensioning element is guided through the adjacent segments and the spring element and actuated by a switching mechanism that activates and de-activates a support function of the supporting element. A biasing force is introduced into the segments during activation of the support function of the supporting element. The segments force- and/or form fittingly stay under each other, and are made of an elastic material.
