The system has a preset operating system with a field device tool frame application for a communication driver and a device driver provided in clients (C1, C2). A control software module replaces actual active instance of the communication driver by a newly activated instance of the communication driver after preset time periods or based on a diagnosis event. The newly activated communication driver instance is initialized with persistent configuration data of the actual active communication driver instance.
