The method involves automatically turning ON a compressor and operating compressor at lowest speed, if the turn OFF period of compressor exceeds predetermined time preferably in the range of 30-45 min. The turn ON period of compressor is set to 10-15 min. The compressor is operated at different speeds. An independent claim is included for a refrigerator.
