The method involves introducing a reference agent in a reference edge into a workpiece base body (1), where the insertion of the reference agent is performed by a cutting process that is performed by a run saw. A groove is introduced with a transition i.e. chamfer, to form a plate surface (3) by the cutting process. The workpiece base body is subsequently aligned at the reference agent. The plate surface and a portion of the transition are coated with a coating material. The workpiece base body is aligned for dividing the reference agent. The groove is designed as longitudinal grooves (2a, 2b) and/or transverse grooves (2c, 2d). The coating material is selected from a film or paper. The workpieces are made of timber or timber material.
