The device has a cell (3) for sedimentation of solid matter from water with a hydraulic drive for generation of turbulence around the longitudinal axis of the cell. A retaining element is arranged between the cross-section of the cell and a recess (9) adjoining the cell. The hydraulic drive consists of an inlet (1), which extends into an inlet opening (10), which is arranged adjoining to a wall (7) spaced from the longitudinal axis of the cell. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for separating solids from water, particularly by a separating device; and (2) a method for manufacturing a separating device.
