The device (10) has an ultrasound reflector (13) or an ultrasound head (12) arranged at an end of an endoscopic instrument (11) or at an end of a mechanical connection unit (14) that is partially guided and extended into a channel (18) of the instrument. An electrical connection element (17) is connectable with the head and a control and indicator unit (21). The control and indicator unit produces ultrasonic waves by using an ultrasonic transmitter (19), detects the ultrasonic waves reflected at the reflector by using an ultrasound receiver (20) and determines elapse time of the waves. The control and indicator unit is designed as a computer. The mechanical connection unit is designed as a pliable plastic rod. The electrical connection element is designed as a metallic wire. The endoscopic instrument is designed as a hose or a rod. An independent claim is also included for a method for performing minimum-invasive linear measurement within a hollow organ of a patient.
