The fuel injector comprises a solenoid valve (1) for controlling a liftable nozzle needle (2), by which an injection opening is opened and closed by the lifting movement. A bypass borehole (10) is provided for bypassing an inlet throttle (5) or a discharge throttle (8), which branches from an inlet borehole (4) and opens into an outlet borehole (7). The bypass borehole is formed in a valve piece, in which particularly a control chamber (3), the inlet borehole or the discharge borehole is formed.
