Joining two workpieces by adopting an electric arc welding process, comprises (a) arranging a front side of a first workpiece having a flat geometry at an joint angle to a second workpiece, (b) applying at least one welding pool limiting means on a joint region of the two workpieces such that the welding pool limiting means together with the workpieces restrict a welding joint, and (c) joining the two workpieces by electric arc welding. An independent claim is also included for the welding pool limiting means comprising a material for limiting a weld pool formed by the electric arc welding process, and a shaping unit for a system on the joint region of two workpieces, which are arranged at the joint angle, such that the welding pool limiting means together with the workpieces, at least partially restrict the weld joint.
