The self-cleaning steam iron (1) has a housing (3), where a soleplate (2) is heated by a heating device. A steam chamber is arranged on the housing facing the side surface of the soleplate, where a water inlet is arranged in the steam chamber to supply water for the generation of the operating steam. Another water inlet is provided for supplying water for cleaning the steam chamber, where a channel is provided in the area of the steam chamber. The channel leads in the direction of former water inlet water from latter water inlet.
