The device has an optical fiber (3) e.g. telecommunication glass fiber, inserted into an adhesive layer (2) in material engagement manner, where the adhesive layer partially produces an adhesive connection between components (1.1, 1.2). The fiber includes fiber Bragg grating sensors (4, 4') lying in a region of the adhesive layer. Optical connections couple light (9) in a wide spectral range from a light source (5) into the fiber, and uncouple reflected light (11) in the optical fiber at a sensor (6) for evaluating a reflection spectrum. The fiber is designed as a temperature sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for monitoring a state of an adhesive connection between two joining partners.
