The tool has a mold cavity which is filled with the plastic melt. A thermally insulating coating is provided on the surface of die cavity. The thermally insulating coating having micro-porous surface structure is made of polymer containing polyimide and/or polyamide or plastic. The thickness of the thermally insulating coating is set in range of 50-150 micrometer. The heat conductivity of the thermally insulating coating is set to specific value. An independent claim is included for method for manufacturing micro-foam injection molded portion.
