The domestic appliance (11) has a treatment container (14) for receiving washing liquid and a reservoir (16) for storing wash liquid. A pump is connected with a suction side of the treatment container and the pressure side of the reservoir. The hydrostatic pressures are exerted on the pressure side and suction side by the wash liquid in reservoir and the treatment container. The delivery pressure of the pump is adjusted and set such that difference between hydrostatic pressures is equal upon reaching a desired wash liquid level. An independent claim is included for a method for operating water-conducting domestic appliance.
