The converter (40) has a voltage input pole pair that is connected with a voltage source and provided with input voltage terminals (62, 64). An output voltage pole pair is connected with output voltage and provided with output voltage terminals (66,68). A half-bridge (70) includes two controllable semiconductor switches (72,74), and inductor (78) which is connected to bridge tap (76) connected between semiconductor switches. The half bridge is indirectly connected to the output voltage terminals by a switch arrangement (84). An independent claim is included for a method for converting input voltage into output voltage.
