The method involves providing a radiation source (R) and a radiation detector (D). A filter (F) is attached between the radiation source and a radiation object (O). The scattered radiation distribution (V) in the detector plane is estimated, and the scattered radiation is corrected based on estimation result of scattered radiation distribution. The correction value as a variable depends on water-equivalent path in object. The correction variable as an additional variable depends on the X-ray path length in the filter. An independent claim is included for a device for correcting scattered radiation for medical X-ray based imaging.
