The device has application rollers (10, 11) rotating in running direction of a punched strip (1) and oiling respective upper and lower sides of the strip. A distributer pipe (19) coats a lateral surface of the rollers with oil (14). A doctor blade (16) adjusts thickness of oil layers on the rollers. The rollers are arranged offset relative to each other in the running direction of the strip or form a gap, where height of the gap corresponds to thickness of the strip. The rollers are coupled with each other by an elastic control element e.g. spring. The lateral surface of the application rollers is made of plastic, ceramic or composite material. An independent claim is also included for a method for oiling a strip material.
