The method involves emitting a phase and/or amplitude modulated signal (5) by a submarine vehicle (1) e.g. submarine boat, and receiving the modulated signal by another submarine vehicle (2) e.g. unmanned, independent underwater vehicle. The modulated signal is emitted from the former submarine vehicle in different directions. An acknowledgment signal is emitted in a direction of the former submarine vehicle when the signal is received by the latter vehicle. Alteration of emission direction of the signal is terminated if the former submarine vehicle receives the acknowledgment signal. Radio waves and/or acoustic signals and/or an optical viewable light signal i.e. laser beam, is used as the modulated signal and acknowledgment signal. An independent claim is also included for a system for communication between independent submarine vehicles.
