The method involves positioning a three-dimensional object (9) at a set of polar angles with respect to an optical acquisition unit (3a) e.g. digital video camera. An image of the object at each polar angle is captured by the optical acquisition unit. The object is positioned at another set of polar angles with respect to the optical acquisition unit. An image of the object at each of the latter polar angles is captured by the optical acquisition unit. An image data set comprising coding for the images of the objects is created and stored. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for three-dimensional acquisition of an object (2) a computer program product for three-dimensional acquisition of objects.
