Selective separation of vanadium from fasting aluminum containing byproducts precipitated during the production of titania by the chloride process, comprises (a) alkaline digestion of the fast-products at a pH value of at least 11.5 and 150[deg] C, preferably 70-150[deg] C to form a suspension; and (b) adjusting the pH value of the suspension to 8-10 at at least 80[deg] C to precipitate aluminum hydroxide and obtaining a filtrate.
