The method comprises: joining two components (5, 6) by a pin-shaped connecting element (1), where, in the joining process, a tool (8) is driven in the components under pressure and rotary application and the connection component is produced by frictional heating and local deformation of the component materials; and checking the quality of the connected component by loading the connecting element with a test torque, where the quality inspection is completed by non-destructive reaching of the test torque. The tool has a widened head of the connecting element for the connecting components. The method comprises: joining two components (5, 6) by a pin-shaped connecting element (1), where, in the joining process, a tool (8) is driven in the components under pressure and rotary application and the connection component is produced by frictional heating and local deformation of the component materials; and checking the quality of the connected component by loading the connecting element with a test torque, where the quality inspection is completed by non-destructive reaching of the test torque. The tool has a widened head of the connecting element for the connecting components, where the head is applied with a pressing force and a torque. In the checking step, the test torque is introduced in the head of the connecting element with the pressure force by the tool used in the joining process and the connection component remains in a rotationally fixed connection by subjecting the test torque in the connecting element. The checking step is carried out immediately after the end of the joining process, and, the tool, after the end of the joining process, is maintained in a positive engagement with the head. The pressing force of the tool applied in the checking step is 50% smaller than the maximum pressing force of the tool applied in the joining step. The size of the test torque is determined on the basis of a failure torque in which, a rotational movement of the connecting element begins after the joining step. In the checking step, a rotation angle detection is carried out in which a rotation angle specified back from the connecting element is detected and/or a return stroke of the tool is introduced after successful checking step. An independent claim is included for a device for producing a connection between components.
