The fuel injection system (1) has high-pressure circuit (3) which is provided with an injector (9) for injecting the fuel (5) with respect to combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. A high pressure manifold (11) is connected to the injector. The high-pressure conveying device (13) is fluidly connected to the suction side of the low pressure supply line (6) and pressure side of high pressure supply line (12). A volume flow regulating valve (18) is arranged in the low pressure return line (7) or high-pressure return lines (14,15).
