The instrument (1) has a beam conducting device i.e. laser swiveling arm (3), formed with an exit lens system (5) for a therapeutic laser beam. A moving device moves a part of the beam conducting device including the exit lens system into a treatment area (2) at the beginning and moves the part of the beam conducting device out of the treatment area after the use of the instrument such that the treatment area is freely accessed for using other instruments after the part of the beam conducting device including the exit lens system is moved out of the treatment area.
