The method involves irradiating light in the form of light stripe on the surface in area of the test contours. The light stripe extends transverse to test contours. The light reflected from the test contours is received as a line-shaped image by an optical sensor (12). The brightness values of the pixels of the optical sensor are selected repeatedly behind one another during exposure time of the surface. The selection of the brightness values of the individual pixels is checked whether the brightness lies within a predetermined range of values.
