The device (1) has two bodies (6, 7) relatively moved together by a support device (9) such that a transverse projection of two adjacent vertebrae is engaged in supports (8) of the bodies and motion of the transverse projection is prevented. Longitudinal extension of the device is larger than lateral extension of the device in operating state. The lateral extension of the device is larger in another operating state than lateral extension of the device in the former state. The projection is engaged in the supports of the bodies in the latter state. An independent claim is also included for a positioning aid for implementing a device for supporting the spinal column in region of transverse projections of adjacent vertebrae.
