Lightweight piston comprises a piston upper part, which is made of an ultra-high carbon-containing lightweight steel, comprising a piston head, and a piston lower part, which is made of an aluminum material, comprising a piston skirt, where the light-weight piston has at least two parts, and the piston upper part is joined with the piston lower part. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a semifinished product for producing a shell for the lightweight piston, where the semifinished product for the piston upper part is made of the ultra-high carbon-containing lightweight steel; (2) the semifinished product for producing the lower part for the lightweight piston, where the semifinished product for the lower piston part is made of aluminum material; and (3) producing the lightweight piston comprising (i) providing a preform for the piston upper part, which consists of ultra-high carbon-containing lightweight steel, providing the preform for the lower piston part, which consists of aluminum material, and joining the semifinished product for the piston upper part with the semi-finished product for the lower piston part.
