The energy storage device (20) has cylindrical housing (30) in which a piston rod (32) is axially displaceable under releasing and/or by application of forces acting in the axial direction. The fastening elements are provided at the axial end portion of the housing or at the axial end portion of the piston rod. The axial distance from the housing or piston rod is variable by rotatably operable length compensating arrangement. The length compensating arrangement is arranged on piston rod remote from the end portion of the housing.
