The occlusion device (10) has several occlusion elements (14,14a-14d) which partially surround the to-be-occluded blood vessel (12). The occlusion elements are provided with fluid chambers (16a-16d) whose volume is enlarged by filling the fluid by using pumps (22,22a-22d) in the direction of to-be-occluded blood vessel such that the occlusion of the blood vessel is performed. The ultrasonic transmitters (18a-18d) and ultrasonic receivers (18a'-18d') are arranged on opposed sides of the blood vessel. An independent claim is included for method for operating occlusion device.
