Apparatus and method for detecting and measuring the condition of oesophageal mucosa and signs of gastroesophageal reflux disease

A mucosal impedance measurement system capable of direct and accurate oesophageal mucosal impedance measurements includes example multichannel intraluminal impedance catheters with inflatable and deflatable components for positioning the impedance sensing electrodes in direct contact with the esophageal mucosa at the inner surface of the esophagus. Impedance measurements from multiple sites in the esophagus are processed for evidence of mucosal damage indicative of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), and Barrett's esophagus injury.
