It is a method for performing vector operations on a semiconductor chip. The method comprises the execution of a first vector instruction therein with a vector - functional unit which is implemented on the semiconductor chip, and the execution of a second vector instruction therein with the vector - functional unit. The first vector instruction therein is a multiply - add - vector instruction therein. The second vector instruction therein is a vector instruction therein for counting of leading zeros.
