The method involves bringing an attachment element (1) into a component aperture (7) such that a part of the attachment element is surrounded by a raised component portion. The raised component portion is deformed such that material of the raised component portion is pressed against the attachment element by deformation and forms a fixed connection between the attachment element and a component. A component layer (4) is brought in position with another component layer (5) such that the component aperture and another component aperture (6) of the component layers are aligned with each other. An independent claim is also included for a tool for connecting an attachment element with a component.
