The method involves detecting a signal of a fluid level sensor arranged in a storage tank. A sloping position of the motor vehicle with respect to a horizontal position is determined. A filling volume determined from the detected signal of the fluid level sensor is subjected in the storage tank depending on the determined sloping position. An ultrasonic sensor is used as the fluid level sensor. The filling volume of aqueous urea solution is determined in urea storage tank.
