The tool has a tool component (100) with a blank holder (130), which presses a sheet material (400) with a predetermined clamping force against another tool component during shaping of a flange section (410). An actuating device (300) acts between the blank holder and the latter tool component, which pushes apart during shaping of the blank holder and the latter tool component to vary the surface pressure or the surface pressure distribution. The actuating device comprises an actuating element and an electromagnetic actuating drive for actuation of the actuating element. An independent claim is included for a method for shaping a sheet material using a tool and an actuating device.
