The device has an electromagnet (10) fixed at a part of a protective mechanism and cooperating with a counter element of the device in a preset state of the protective mechanism, where the preset state of the protective mechanism is set. The counter element is fixed at another part of the protective mechanism. A winding of the electromagnet is arranged in a groove (16) of a profile (12). The profile is fixed at a part of the device and at the former part of the protective mechanism. The electromagnet exhibits a contour with portions of different lateral extensions. An independent claim is also included for a safety switch.
