Bacterial fermentation of organic material to combustible gas in a substrate comprising trace elements, using renewable resources as the organic material, is claimed. The trace elements include (a) 1-5 mg/kg nickel, (b) 0.6-1.2 mg/kg cobalt, and (c) 0.06-0.01 mg/kg selenium, each based on the organic dry substance in the fermentation substrate. An independent claim is also included for trace element mixture for metering the renewable raw materials as the organic material into the fermentation substrate, comprising trace elements (a)-(c), and optionally further at least one additional trace element, which includes (d) 0.8-1.6 mg/kg molybdenum, (e) 70-120 mg/kg manganese, (f) 6-10 mg/kg copper, (g) 0.02-0.08 mg/kg tungsten, (h) 0.02-0.08 mg/kg vanadium, and/or (i) 60-100 mg/kg zinc, each based on the organic dry substance in the fermentation substrate.
