In a method for determining the distance (R) and radial velocity (v) of an object with respect to a measuring location in which radar signals are emitted and received again after reflection at the object at the measuring location, wherein the radar signals emitted within a measuring cycle in numerous sections (10 ), in which they are changed in their frequency from an initial value (fA, fB) to the final value and the received reflected signals are subjected to a first evaluation for detecting frequency peaks via a respective section (10) and additionally a subsequent second evaluation the signals for the frequency peaks of all sections (10) of the measurement cycle for determining a Doppler frequency component as a measure of the radial velocity (v), an ambiguity of the determination of the relative velocity (v) is eliminated by dividing the sections (10) into at least two groups (A, B) whose output value (fA, fB) and / or end value of the changing frequency are different, that the sections (11, 12) of each group (A, B) are separately subjected to the second evaluation and that by determining a phase difference of the second evaluation the portions (11, 12) of each group (A, B) resulting corresponding signals a correction of ambiguities of the determined speed is made.
