The method involves providing/supplying a workpiece (20), so that a detected surface of the workpiece is to be checked, and partially splitting a surface of the workpiece into multiple surface portions (S). The surface portions and area portion images (12) are parallely detected. The area portion images are overlaid to an overlay image that is transmitted to a sensor device (7), where irradiation of an electromagnetic wave is performed at a predetermined period. A transfer image is scanned by the sensor device. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a fault on a surface of the workpiece.
