The unit (5) has a control or regulating unit (8) triggering an action of an injection molding machine element e.g. heatable or coolable molding tool, by actuating operating keys (10), and transmitting operating signals (S) to the element. Multiple different trigger symbols (11) corresponding to the triggered action are represented on or adjacent to the keys based on called submenus (U) and/or connected or adjusted machine-specific parameters (P). The represented trigger symbols correspond with the submenus and/or the parameters. A touch-sensitive monitor (7) displays an operator main menu.
